In 2004 Albin Marine is celebrating its 105th year history in the Marine Field with the introduction of the new classic, Albin 30 Family Cruiser. Albin Marine is the successor to Albin Motor, originally founded in Sweden in 1899 as a marine diesel engine and boat manufacturer. The new Albin joins a long line classic yachts from the North Sea sail & motor boats we made in Sweden, to the offshore trawlers we produced in Taiwan, to our current line of Downeast cruising and fishing boats we manufacture at our 147,000 sqft facility in Portsmouth, RI.
In 1966 Albin entered the U.S. market and established a Global presence. Fred Peters has been the President of Albin Marine (USA) since 1966 building products in Sweden, Taiwan, and the United States. Fred Peters purchased Albin Marine in 1981. Volvo Penta acquired the marine engine division of Albin
Our diesel powered yachts are built without compromise and known throughout the world as seaworthy vessels designed in the North Sea tradition to handle the roughest waters. Our name is synonymous with hand-crafted, smartly designed, yachts of quality, with timeless lines and traditional design. If you want outstanding accommodations for the cruising family, or canyon rigging for the serious sport fisherman, Albin Marine has the perfect yacht to suit both your maritime needs and your individual style.

Now in 2004, Albins new 30 Family Cruiser updates the design once again in a convertible or wheelhouse configurations. Compared to the previous model, the new 30 aft cabin offers roomier sleeping accommodations for five in separate cabins, plus improved performance. Now riding on a carefully crafted Progressive-V hull with a 19° deadrise, the 30 demonstrates excellent maneuverability with the added advantage of being able to efficiently cut through chop.
The seasoned boater will appreciate the hulls seakeeping qualities, while passengers will enjoy the soft ride, especially in heavy seas. An additional nod to this Albins ocean-going nature is the bow flair, which helps keep the decks dry. The design demonstrates its North Sea heritage in terms of strength a given because of the bi-axial and uni-direction FRP knitted products we use to lay up the hull. Those familiar with Albin heritage will recognize that the hull design is heavily based on the widely acclaimed and well-trusted Albin 28 Tournament Express a vessel as comfortable in the harsh waters off Alaska and the North Sea as it is on the Inter-coastal.
An Albin tradition, the 30 Family Cruiser is fitted with standard fuel-efficient Diesel power. The standard 265-horsepower Perkins Diesel delivers a top speed of 24knots with an 8-gallon-per-hour cruise at 18 knots. At this pace, the cruising range with the standard 126-gallon fuel tank is approximately 350 miles. The reliability of the Perkins is excellent, and maintenance needs are very reasonable both important points to a captain who wants to be a part of the family action, and not just concerned with taking care of the boat.
Optional power includes 315 Yanmar Diesel or the Volvo 300 or the New Volvo 310 D-6
The 30 Family Cruiser sports another important feature that benefits the family, a protective skeg keel. The skeg helps protect the prop and rudder against unseen hazards, and its integrated design also ads stability and tracking in heavy seas.
Atop the hull, the deck features 11.5 wide walk-around areas that feature easy-care non-skid surfaces. The stainless steel deck rails are securely through-bolted and up to a full 26 tall in order to provide true support when most needed.
While this Albins design and power are important, whats more important to many aboard the new Family Cruiser is the accommodations. The Family Cruisers wide beam of 10 is put to very good use. First, The wheel house offers protection from the elements with 6 6 of head room. The view from the helm is excellent a full 360°. Additionally, the bright and well-ventilated (eight opening ports and an overhead hatch) forward cabin area has an enclosed marine head/ shower compartment, a convertible dinette (to a 6 6 x 5 queen berth) and a galley area with stove, refrigerator, microwave, and sink. Aft of the galley is a 6 3 x 3 3 berth.
There is a large storage well in the center of the cockpit that can be used for dry or wet storage. The well is even equipped with a macerator for those times when the boat will be pressed into fishing duties. The entire assembly can be raised automatically to provide access to the engine and driveline. This makes lifting the unit as simple as flipping a switch
a good thing when that storage compartment is filled.
While many boats offer some of the above features, nobody else offers the unique aft cabin. No other design maximizes cabin space like the aft cabin. Whether traveling with children or other adults, the roomy after cabin offers that rare commodity, privacy. The aft cabin boasts two single berths, which convert into a 7 11x 5 queen bed. Four opening ports and a large entranceway endow the area with an inviting and comfortable feeling.
As noted by Fred Peters, the owner and president of Albin Marine, Everything I learned as a merchant navy officer in the North Atlantic has been incorporated into this Albin. She is true to her Swedish heritage and backed by over a century of engineering innovation much of it developed right here in Cos Cob. Now that Im a grandfather, the idea of families being together on the water is even more important to me, and our new 30 Family Cruiser is just the kind of boat families need. Just look at it. Theres no mistake for whom we designed this boat.
